Prude, Idiot, Satan – Yay!

I’m sure many of you heard about this story on the news (this is a bit late but better late than never as well). The whole fiasco about Rush Limbaugh insulting Ms. Sandra Fluke over the fact she was arguing for Birth Control to be covered by health insurance. I’m sure you’ve also seen many of the other blog posts arguing why women aren’t sl*ts or wh*res just because they want this. So if you don’t want to read another one, please don’t read any further. If you’re still in this for the long haul? Awesome! Glad you’re still reading and are willing to hear my thoughts on this matter as well. Fair warning, I got a feeling this is going to be a rant.

So why the title? It actually comes from a Someecards.com caption/picture that reads, “I see – If I don’t have sex with you I’m a prude bitch. If I use the pill, I’m a slut. If I get pregnant, I’m an idiot and if I choose abortion I’m Satan. Yay!”. I apologize for the use of the language but it’s necessary for the context of our subject and clarifying details. This was made not too long after this Rush Fiasco went down.

As a woman in the United States of America I have EQUAL rights just as much as ANY man does. I am NOT a cow and I refuse to be seen as nothing, but an “animal” or “mule” that’s only good for one thing – reproduction. That’s NOT my only purpose in life. Spirit has so much more planned for me than just possibly Motherhood. I used to be on Birth Control and guess who supplied me. Planned Parenthood. They were a blessing when I couldn’t afford to get it anywhere else. I took Birth Control to ensure I DIDN’T get pregnant before I was truly ready to say BE a mom not to mention be a MOM with the RIGHT man by my side, willing to stick by me and raise them with me. Takes a real man to do that – but I’ve heard many stories in the last decade about how teen girls get pregnant, the boys get scared and head for the hills. That’s not cool. If you’re going to force a woman to KEEP a baby, maybe you should FORCE the real FATHER to stay with the mother to support her and the child until it has reached adulthood. Doesn’t that sound fair? Hmm?

My life has been a rather hectic one and in saying that I’ve had to live a few times paycheck to paycheck or barely scrapping by, not being able to really afford things for myself that I wanted to just “spoil” myself a little on. I KNEW that was NO life for a child. I didn’t want to be another mother collecting money from the government just to raise a child in an environment where it clearly wasn’t ready for them to be brought up in. Right now there are so many parents out there on welfare and food stamps. Some of them legitimately NEED that money or that support – others abuse the system that truly don’t deserve it. I think that’s sad.

Now I know some people think, “Well if you obviously can’t take care of your child – you can always give it up for adoption.” Seriously? What parent in their RIGHT MIND wants to give up their own flesh and blood if they truly WANT to keep them? Even if they are struggling with the basic necessities of life. A truly good parent who is worthy and deserving – shouldn’t have to suffer such an atrocity in my opinion. That’s hard. Besides, there are many children already in the foster care system who NEED good, warm, loving homes to take them in. Many of these children ARE older – but they are still just as deserving of a home. So if that’s how you feel about it, why aren’t YOU helping out by adopting some of them? Just a thought. You know what would really help these kids in the system out? Letting Gays and Lesbians have the right to adopt in any state no matter where they are! Kids need loving families. I’ve met many awesome Gays, not so many lesbians, more Bis than anything. Point is though – they may be the same gender, but there is still love there and a chance for a compassion, warm, loving home for a child in need of one.

Why is Birth Control also another great idea? Or contraception in general. Hate to say this – but someone needs to – POPULATION CONTROL! There – I said it. It helps limit the number of people already on this planet. 7 Billion people live on this planet. You know – it’s getting a little crowded. There may come a time where we will run out of room and won’t have any space left. What will we do than? Sterilize ourselves unwillingly because we know it’s necessary? If you ask me – that’s bunk! Taking steps NOW to ensure a future where people can have children still if they WANT to I think is a wonderful idea. So, I’m sticking by that.

In general though, women or parents should have the RIGHT to decide when they WANT to have kids. Not have other people forcing THEM or their religious beliefs on them or whatever it may be. I don’t go around ranting to you all about how EVIL your religion is. I don’t FORCE my beliefs on others, why? Because I have more respect for people than that! If they want to hear me talk about my beliefs, all they have to do – is ask and so long as they give me the time and respect to listen and learn, I will share the same with them if they wish to share with me. Simple as that.

Our country is about FREEDOM of Religion – not, “Let’s shove our beliefs down everyone’s throat because we can’t agree to disagree even though this IS America and people no matter who they are deserve their right to CHOOSE, but that doesn’t matter to us who KNOW we are right!” Seriously I’m going to say it – pull your heads out of your @$$es. This isn’t a matter of Religion so much as it is about FREEDOM and Human Rights. It shouldn’t matter what religion, race, creed, color, or sex you are otherwise.

Woman deserve the RIGHT to decide what happens to their bodies in their best interest and health. And I hate to say MEN can’t interject and say something to but – seriously? Not your body, not your right to decide on what goes on with my body and its overall health. A woman is NOT a prude because she chooses abstinence. That’s her choice. She is NOT a sl*t if she chooses to use Birth Control, because I’ve been there – I didn’t HAVE lots and lots of sex. Okay? If anything it KILLED my sex drive. Point is though – I have too much respect for myself to be going out and spreading them for every Tom, Dick, and Harry and every Tom with a hairy dick. Alright?

What about the women who are raped? You honestly think it’s fair to make her SUFFER the traumas of giving birth to a child she NEVER wanted in the first place? Especially by a MAN who FORCED his way into the woman’s life? If you ask me – it’s cruel and unusual punishment for a woman who has been traumatized by RAPE to force her to have a baby she doesn’t want. I know someone out there is thinking, “Well than she can give the child up and not worry about them anymore.” Honestly, that’s some serious ignorant thinking. If you WANT to learn what the effects of RAPE are on a woman and how HARMFUL it is to her psyche not to mention soul, spirit and body – go find one and ask. I feel people who have NEVER experienced it can NEVER properly understand what those who have experienced such are going through. That is why I always try to be mindful and LISTEN to others and their experiences. You can learn so much just by doing that, it’s sometimes what they need more than anything aside from the obvious emotional support of a hug, holding their hand, or supportive & kind words.

If a woman gets pregnant and she wasn’t ready for it and isn’t sure what to do – she IS – NOT an idiot. She deserves good people who will come to her in her time of confusion, doubts, and worries. She deserves an Angel on her shoulder to tell her everything will be alright no matter WHAT she decides is for her best interest for her highest and greatest good, even if you don’t AGREE with her decision. That’s your opinion, you’re entitled to it – but honestly – some opinions just stink, especially when they are ones that come with High Horses and Soap Boxes.

If in the end – if a woman decides or the DOCTOR decides an abortion is what’s best for their patient for saving their life or otherwise, she is NOT Satan. No woman should have to live with the GUILT of others ideas weighing her down, especially when all they do is detrimental damage to the psyche, to her spirit and soul. Is that what you really want? Because I believe many great teachers in our history have said, you should show love, kindness, compassion and mercy to all – even if they are NOT like you or you don’t agree with their decisions or ideas. Hate, ignorance, anger do NOT create an understanding world of tolerance and self-acceptance. They create a “Hell-Hole” they create a place NO ONE wants to be or live in.

Additionally, men want Viagra to be covered by their health insurance – why not Birth Control? Sounds like both parties should be just as equally covered for the same reason. Why? Because it is FAIR. Because it IS equal. If Viagra gets to be on the bill (if it does) so should Birth Control. Simple as that.

In closing I’d like to say, I know this was a rather ROUGH rant and for the record – I am FAR from being a feminist, but when I feel my rights as woman are threatened. All bets are off! I get tired of this kind of crap. I’ve had to deal with all sorts of CRAP since I was young that wasn’t even RELATED to this CRAP we have now. This stuff shouldn’t even BE an issue to me now. It should have been RESOLVED years ago in my opinion. This IS America. As American’s we have the right to, “Life, liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” that’s – no matter what it may be or what path we choose within GOOD reason. It’s a VERY neutral statement that does not SIDE with any group in particular except a group of people who had like-minded IDEAS that were hoping to create something better for themselves and others and their descendents! Let’s keep that virtue going. The Constitution – OUR Constitution and our Bill of Rights are awesome things. We should FIGHT for these beautiful things that have been handed to us BY our ancestors. Not squandering them and pissing on their hopes and dreams for US and this beautiful country we LIVE in.

I say what I say with the best intentions, hopes and prayers that the true meaning is understand and that people understand I WASN’T directly trying to ATTACK or “Single-out” any one person or group. I appreciate everyone who reads this and I hope you find truth, sincerity and honesty in my words and not some “imagined” Femi-nazi. Just a passionate woman who CARES about her Human Rights, her equal rights to all no matter their race, color, creed, religion, sex, etc – who also happens to be passionate about writing more than anything.

Woman have the right to decide what is best for their body. No one else should make that decision for them, otherwise you strip us of two natural Spirit Given Gifts, Free-will and Choice. I do believe in Choice but I also believe in Life. I support both schools of thought. However, above all else I do not feel it is the right of anyone else to decide or force the majority of all women, what is in their best interest and what is not. Just as I don’t force my beliefs on others I don’t think we should force “Pro-Life” on everyone. Just as we shouldn’t force “Pro-choice” on everyone.

If your beliefs say, life starts at conception or that’s your belief – your entitled to it, but don’t infringe on my rights or the rights of other women who desire for the chance to choose and take their destiny into their hands. You may not like it, you may not agree with it, that’s cool, fine and I respect that. Please respect our choices as well and we will respect yours, simple as that.

Thank you.

~Infinite love and gratitude, light, wisdom, prosperity, abundance and more be yours, with hummingbird hugs and butterfly kisses, Namaste~

I support a woman’s right to choose, but don’t believe that I’d ask any woman to go that route myself. So I’m pro-choice AND pro-life. Go figure. ;)

The only thing that bothers me is inconsistency. The fact that “Jane Roe” or “Roe vs. Wade” fame did a 180 and is now a pro-life activist is rather annoying. :P

Honestly, I’m the same way. I’m “Pro-life” and “Pro-Choice”. I believe people have a right to “Choose” and if it’s very inherently a part of their beliefs NOT to support “abortion” – more power to them. However, I believe everyone still has a choice so I feel the option should be ON the table in the event someone has legitimately good reasoning for doing so. I know it’s not an easy thing to make those kinds of decisions.

Is it? I hadn’t heard that. W-ow! That is a bit messed up in a manner of speaking. *face-palm*

    Unfortunately, she did:

    Look, everyone’s entitled to change their minds, but, for god’s sake, if you kick a hornet’s nest – especially one that big – then you should be damn sure that you’ve thought things completely through and can live with your decision. Doing an about face after a landmark case like this makes you look rather self-serving and irresponsible. -_-;

I agree. Makes me wonder – now that she’s 180, how does she sleep with herself at night? Wasn’t the whole point she was arguing her case back in 1973 because she was trying to GET an abortion? Makes no sense to me. Again, this makes little sense to me and while I “Agree” people are entitled to change their minds – this is just – “weird” and NOT “my” kind of weird. :P

Apparently, she’s blaming the lawyers for taking advantage of her and using her case as an excuse to challenge the state’s abortion laws. o_O

And yes, the whole point was that she was trying to get one as far as I know.

Like I said, consistency is key here. You want an abortion? Fine by me. But don’t come along two or three decades later repenting because you can’t live with your decision.

I came here to read your post on movies, but I just want to say Amen!
The thing that killed me about the whole controversy was that Rush said something like, “How much sex is she having if birth control costs too much for her?” The fact that he doesn’t understand that birth control isn’t a pay-per-use type of deal means he DOESN’T UNDERSTAND HOW BIRTH CONTROL WORKS.
I can respect a difference of opinion regarding birth control. I can’t respect name-calling and willful ignorance.

Ye-ah, I felt Rush chose his words -very- poorly on the Air. He may be a “Radio Entertainer” as he likes to refer to himself as, but he should have KNOWN this was NOT going to turn out well for him. I do not feel he was thinking clearly when he said what he said on the air. But as you said, he clearly was not well versed on the subject matter. It’s why I brought up the Viagra as a good “comparison, semi-equivalent”. Like you though, my biggest issue was the thoughtless name-calling and ignorance. Research never hurts anyone. :)

Not to get all nitpicky, Lady Gwendolynn, but I’m not sure the Viagra comparison quite works.

Now, my knowledge about birth control is pretty superficial, but, as far as I know, it’s something you take on a daily basis. As far as I know, Viagra is “a pay-per-use type of deal”, as Hungrylindsay put it. Or am I completely wrong on both counts here? *confused*

To be perfectly honest, I don’t know what the plan or how the plan with Viagra works, but I AM aware that they have been trying to get Viagra covered by Health Insurance companies for quite sometime now. Maybe just about as long as they have for Birth Control. That’s more what I would be referring to than anything. It’s just saying if men have their pill, why can’t ours be covered to? Does that make more sense? Or still confusing?
