2014 in review – For the Musings of Lady Gwendolynn

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,300 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 38 trips to carry that many people.

Daily Prompt Response: The Social Network Dilemma

Do you feel like you “get” social media, or do you just use it because that’s where all your friends and family are?

Hey all you readers and bloggers out there!

I know it’s been a while since my last blog. I apologize. I’ve started to get those “Pre-Convention Panic” Jitters, because FanExpo (the convention in Canada, going with my Man and his male best-friend) is this month and I need to finish my DAWN Head-Dress soon. It’s almost there. I can’t tell you how much I wish I had the proper Power Tools to do some “Subtractive” sculpting, but alas, I must work with what I got. So I’ve been focused on that, doing Readings in SL, Gardening and trying to get some errands done.

So I’ve been a very busy wee Hummingbird. :3

I had a couple new things I wanted to write about, but going to type those up at “Human hours” vs. my normal “Vampire Hours“. 😛 and NO this Vampire/Night Owl does NOT Sparkle…unless I want to. 😉 hehe So here’s a little something for fun.

When they ask do I “Get” Social media I have to wonder what they mean. Do I understand how it works? Can I see the functionality of Social Media? Do I think Social Media can be useful? Or useless? I guess the answer to nearly all of those is a resounding, “Yes”. Albeit, I do feel some of the Social Media services out there are rather redundant and unnecessary. I think Social Media is a VERY powerful tool and to that I would also like to add, “With great power comes great responsibility“. Yes; that’s right. I just used a Comic Book quote. 😛 More

Daily Prompt: Life IS Pain Highness!

…Anyone who says differently is selling something.” – Westly dressed as “The Man in Black” or “Dread Pirate Roberts“.

While I had something different in mind for today’s post (as I have several topics awaiting in my Drafts Folder and The Shelton Oracle I should sorely update), I saw The Daily Posts posting of the day and it said, “Take a quote from your favorite movie — there’s the title of your post. Now, write!” Now I could have taken ANY number of quotes from the movie, as it is my all-time favorite – but this was the first that came to mind and lends for interesting discussion.

I already, honestly, wanted to take this quote and expand on it – so Daily Post gave me an excuse and motivation to do that today over anything else for my regular blog.

Consider the quote, sans the Highness comment, “Life is PAIN – anyone who says differently is selling something!“. More

Daily Prompt Response: Mentor Me

Have you ever had a mentor? What was the greatest lesson you learned from him or her?

Yes; I’ve had a Mentor. If I had to be honest with myself I’ve had two major mentors in my life who have profoundly affected my understanding of Magick and being a Pagan. However, I’ve also had other very important Mentors or Teachers come into my life since then. At least six I can think of I met down in Florida when I lived there for two years.

My very first true Mentor that I remember is the reason I finally got down on my knees and swore an oath, dedicating myself to my God and Goddess as I finally accepted the path I had always been born to, just had not yet figured things out on my own and fully come to terms with accepting the path I was meant for.

In a single day, my 1st Mentor shared with me as much as he could before we had to part ways. I have not seen him since that day and I have no idea if he knew what kind of impression he’d leave upon me, but I can’t help but wonder if he had not already seen the Priestess within me waiting to come out when we met. He had that all-knowing twinkle in his eye which told me he was privy to much more than meets the eye. More

Daily Prompt: Karma Chameleon

Reincarnation: do you believe in it?

I could answer this very simply by saying, Yes – I do. Which is absolutely true, but then you leave all the “whys” hanging in the air. The real question is, why not?

I believe everyone has a Soul, a shard of the great driving force at work in our Universe. A Soul’s principle follows along the same lines regarding the scientific laws of matter, it cannot be destroyed nor can be created. At least not by human hands that we’ve seen so far. If matter cannot be destroyed it must take on a new form or shape as needed.

When we die, we shed our physical vessels (bodies) and the Soul merely seeks to take on a new form. This form can re-manifest in this plane of existence or another as just about anything and everything depending on the agreements (Aye; some of us believe in this too. Whole other lengthy explanation there) we make prior to being incarnated on the plane we are looking to exist upon. More

Daily Prompt Response: Right to Health

Is access to medical care something that governments should provide, or is it better left to the private sector? Are there drawbacks to your choice?

Note: Formatting may be screwy. Not my fault.

I know this is a Daily Prompt but it’s a very good one I’ve meant to address for some time now but with regard to the Obama-care (Universal American Healthcare Act) that was enacted. However, I haven’t had the time or been able to make the time to do the adequate legwork, I feel, to argue my points adequately just yet. I’m working on that when and where I can (You’ll most likely see some of that here).

However, this Daily Prompt from The Daily Post has given me a pretty wonderful opportunity to still discuss the idea of something like a Universal Healthcare plan if at all, what would be the pros and cons of such a choice. So good topic choice Daily Post!

Note: I know I’m late with this but I’ve been sick for almost a week. Cut me a break people. I’m busy playing catch-up on topics. 😛 More

Daily Prompt Response: All About Me

Explain why you chose your blog’s title and what it means to you.

Yes; the response to this might be late, but better late than never, aye?

When I was initially creating my blog I sat for probably a good 10-15 mins trying to think of a good title. I knew I wanted to create a new blog, as I lost access to my old LiveJournal and the customer support wasn’t exactly being very helpful with recovery, but thinking of titles is sort of a last-minute thing for me. I’m a little too easily excitable sometimes when it comes to new ventures but that’s not all bad (I still want my LiveJournal back though *le sigh*).

Being a poet who sometimes fancies using the term “Bard” now and again for herself, for fun mind you, I decided something a little old-fashioned and perhaps harkening back to a different sort of thinking/phrasing might be nice. Thus resulted in the title you get for my blog.

Aside from feeling like an inside joke of sorts the title of the blog says exactly what the blog is about, “The Musings of Lady Gwendolynn“. It says it’s about whatever I am, whoever I am at whatever given point that it is now. For those who read my blog, they also know this means I talk about anything and everything, but preferably if I can find something to discuss regarding Spirituality, the meaning of life or something else – those are my most favorite subjects next to inspirational (though I don’t always know which posts of mine are categorized as that).

And now you know! And knowing is half the battle G. I. Jo- oh wait, whew! Almost made that mistake again. Thanks for stopping me!….I still want to do it now. Darn it!

Thanks for reading!

Daily Prompt: Proud – Response

rose (Photo credit: alice_ling)

When was the last time someone told you they were proud of you?

I have to admit, I haven’t heard the word “Proud” uttered or mentioned very often in my life. Especially in such a way it really stuck with me. People who don’t know you very well who mean well and try to be helpful can say, “Oh I’m sure so and so is proud of you!” and just because they do tell you this, it’s not the same as hearing it from that “So and So” source. It makes a huge difference and should leave a bigger impact.

Note: Today, I’m using daily prompt to ease back into my usual writing topics. Just something easy and light for reading.

To answer the question though, the last time I know someone told me they were truly “Proud” of me and it really stuck with me – that was my very wonderful, good friend, companion and current love of my life. Granted when he told me this it was when I had tears in my eyes, because we were discussing something very deeply personal to me. However, if there is one thing I can trust my partner to do – it’s to be completely open and honest with me. More

Daily Prompt: Toot Your Horn – I Always Mean Well, Regardless

Most of us are excellent at being self-deprecating, and are not so good at the opposite. Tell us your favorite thing about yourself.

Okay, so – I may or may not go the humble route and if I’m not very humble about it, sorry? If I had to really pat myself on the back for something and pick something about myself that is one of my favorite things – I think it’d have to be…*drum roll*  I always try to do what’s right whether it is for myself or others. There are some times I have faltered perhaps in my duties in giving people a much-needed “Clue x 4” to the face. I figure, if I don’t give it to them – eventually someone will (everything happens in its own divine time and place in my book). You can’t force anyone to be what they naturally don’t feel comfortable with or doing, not until they are ready to make that change themselves.

I always try to do what I feel is right. Sometimes that has been at my own expense. I still did it though because I understood the entirety of the circumstances I was in, what was needed and I made – what I felt – were the appropriate decisions of that time. Some of those decisions were appropriate sacrifices that needed to be made. Other decisions I have made have not always been seen as the right course of action. Sometimes my actions or even inaction has still led to the pain and suffering of friends, family or others. I hate to see those I love suffer or be in pain because it hurts me too very deeply. I also dislike to be the cause of that pain, but sometimes I can’t help that either. Sometimes it’s needed. This is often times why I put up with what I do or why I tell my friends, “If you want the honest to God/dess ugly truth, you better ask for it so I know you’re prepared“. More

Daily Prompt Response to “Faith”

Halo Solar

What is the Role Faith plays in your life – or doesn’t.
I know Faith plays a very big role in my life. For as long as I’ve been consciously aware of the world around me Faith has been a big defining factor in it. Faith to me is like the “Magick” I practice. It is a very important and integral “brick” in the foundation of my character. If I may quote something from one of my favorite comics Dawn – Lucifer’s Halo – “Trust is like a form of Faith, right? A Faith is a form of trust. But without it what do you have? A broken heart? A broken sword? And things just have the power that you give them.

Faith is power and power is Faith that is part of what this quote is talking about, if you take that away – what do you have left? “Banality is stronger than Belief – yet Faith is stronger still“. That’s another important thread  in the fabric of my being. Because without Faith, belief, Trust or Hope – what are we? What do we have left to believe in? If we don’t trust ourselves or have Faith in ourselves, much less something greater than ourselves. I’m not trying to infer anything about anyone else or their beliefs, simply this is how my mind works and how I work. More
