Careful! It’s a TRAP! Holiday Loans, beware!

My partner recently got a flyer-postcard in the mail from a company offering folks “loans” for the holiday so they could have the funds to purchase gifts for their loved ones. I had to do a double-take and shake my head, not to mention I was a little upset at this ploy.

A lot of folks are already in debt. Lots of folks are STILL recovering from the recession or they just are barely making enough to scrape by with how things have been in the economy. “Let’s help them be MORE in-debt by offering them loans!” *Phoney Big grin with two thumbs up, then frowny face* Ye-ah, no.

Folks, please – for the love of all things pure, sacred and holy, don’t fall for this load of horse manure. It’s really just a trick. You DON’T need it!

This time of year is supposed to be about family, togetherness, kindness, compassion and tender moments. It is more than just “material” based goods. Physical gifts are a simple perk. They aren’t necessary to enjoy this time of year.

If you are so worried about giving something, try a thoughtful card with one of your favorite quotations. Or try making a hand-made-home-made ornament. Perhaps learn a song someone in your family really loves and sing it for them. There are other ways you can show you care and give a “gift” of sorts to someone. Sometimes gifts aren’t always physical either, sometimes they are intangible.

Those are often the best gifts because they touch our souls and often last past the moment in which they were commenced, performed or otherwise. Those are the best. If you truly, absolutely, have nothing to give. Please don’t sweat it! Those who are your true friends and family should and WILL understand your circumstance. They shouldn’t need a physical gift to confirm why you are so special to them or worth having in their life. That should already come on its own.

They should be grateful for what they have and so should you. This truly is a time of also being grateful for what we do have. So think on that for a while.

This Holiday season I urge and implore you, don’t fall for the hype and get yourself a loan. Forget the “peer-pressure“. Do what’s right for you. Do what is within your means to do. And have a wonderful holiday season!

Thank you for reading as always. Much love and gratitude.

A Good Deed Remembered

I have been trying to think of what my next topic would be and today I was reminded of a very scary and terrifying incident that turned out to have a happy ending, along with a little more.

This story is about an act of “kindness” that was shown to me and mine when it was needed most. About a year ago (or so), the sun was just setting and my Mother was on her way home from Kitten Rescue. I was inside preoccupying myself with, I think, my blog. I had no idea what had happened outside, otherwise I’d have been in a bit of a panic.

I heard the sound of a car, honking. This happened a few times in an urgent manner so I got up and rushed out to the front porch. It was my Mother and she called to me and said, “Is this Amadan?” and my heart sank a little. To my horror, Amadan was lying motionless in the road.
For those unaware, Amadan is my Seal-point Siamese-Mix I have had since his birth along with his brother Loki, who traveled with my Brother, their brother Gabriel, their mother Cammy and I all the way from Florida back home to Washington.

When I was able to get my shoes on and rush out there to help my Mother, Amadan was just starting to regain consciousness. He yowled in pain. He had broken a tooth, he was a little banged up, but he looked fine over all. I was so freaked out, terrified and trying to keep it together and remain as calm as I could, running Reiki healing energy on him to help.

United We Stand, Divided We Fall

I know one of my readers (you know who you are) reported to me that 2012 has been one of the most profitable years despite the obvious Depression the United States and quite possibly the World has been under. I know there are still people out there desperate for jobs, food, a helpful and hopeful answer to the many questions that they may have regarding their fears, doubts and worries in these economic times. Those of you who remember your American History, if you remember anything about “The Great Depression“, probably remember sitting through movies or Documentaries depicting folks during “The Great Depression” in hovels (“Hoovervilles“), maybe in boarding home situations or other living conditions.

The American people, many of them, banded together to help one another out. Even if they didn’t like their living conditions or want things to be that way, they did what was necessary and humanely just for their fellow-man and it helped them to survive and get by. They shared their meals and what little they had with one another. Granted, there may have still been some crime during this time but I don’t remember hearing much about it. No; instead I heard stories of camaraderie and how the people demonstrated their distaste with President Herbert Hoover for not keeping to his word after making so many promises to the American People. Disconnected and Out of Touch

Gee, what’s WRONG with this picture?

Technology has done a great deal to help advance and improve our daily lives, but for all the good it has done there has been those with iniquitous motives for advancing technology as well. Computers have done much to advance our communication and understanding of the world, but for every bit of accurate information or positive thing the internet and computers have done – there is just as much useless or hurtful content and people. So where might I be going with all this you might wonder?

If there has been one thing I have observed in my young life, it’s this – the more our technology advances the less we actually connect with the people we love and care about outside of the technological jungle or even the world around us. The more “Plugged-in” we are different facets of our lives begin to suffer (attentiveness, appetite, spiritual, emotional, family, friends, dreams, etc). It’s so easy to let internet, videos-games and other technological hobbies slowly take over  and nearly consume our lives – if we allow them to. Many people do. I have seen it time and again, often many in denial about. Even I have allowed myself to be lost as well in that interesting, tantalizing, unrelenting stupor of splendor of being “Plugged-in“. More

P.A.U. 5 – Down with the Sickness! Prodigal Kitty Returns!

November (Photo credit: Cape Cod Cyclist)

So I’m almost completely in good health. I am still having minor coughing bouts now and again but I’m recovered for the large part. Still trying to be careful though with the coughs and all though, just to be safe. Our cat that I mentioned was missing, came home after missing for two days. He seemed fine, if not for a bit of emotional “shock”. He’s doing wonderfully now and he’s been less shy and skittish with my mother and I. I’m very glad to have him back. The bad news though is this past week we DID have to finally take one of our cats in to be put down. He was just so old and he honestly seemed rather miserable as he lost a considerable amount of weight and seemed a bit listless. He seemed to just be holding on for the heck of it. My Mother decided this would be best and I concurred as I had also observed his declining health since November. I sent prayers with him and asked Spirit to make his transition and easy one. I’ve tried to find the time to type up some of my new topics, but I’ve been a little busy re-weeding and helping my brother. I hope to write something interesting in the next day or two. Keep your eyes peeled. Thank you again for your positive energy, words, and prayers.

Lastly, if anyone is planning on going to the 66th Annual Pacific Northwest Scottish Highland Games & Clan Gathering on the 28th and 29th of this month, I’m going to be there. Going to try and dress up in something to stand OUT of the crowd just for fun. Should be a blast! This will be my first year going. My one regret, I wish I had known these kinds of events went on in my state sooner. I’m excited! If you do see me there, feel free to say hello. I love to meet new people. Just let me know HOW you know who I am so I don’t think you are some crazy stalker person. Thank you. 🙂

Personal Author Update 2

WonderWoman and a wonderful man. . . . ..

WonderWoman and a wonderful man. . . . .. (Photo credit: Elsie esq.)

It’s been sometime since I did one of these but I figure might as well. My mother finished her Chemo this past month and she and I are BOTH very much relieved. She’s got some time though to rest and recoup before they move on to radiation, from what I understand. Thank you to everyone who sent my mother and myself good vibes during this hard time.

Emotionally it was hard both on my mom and myself. I know my Mother didn’t outwardly show it, but I think she was worried about her health overall. I know in my heart though she is where I get some of my tenacity from and I know she’s got several more years yet still left in her. 😉 🙂 I wasn’t really worried myself for this very reason. She’s a fighter. More

Skip the Debt This Holiday Season

Santa Claus with a little girl

It’s that time again. That time of the year when the biggest Holidays of the season hit us and sometimes hits our wallets HARD. I often wonder why do we allow ourselves to fall into these materialistic notions when Christmas for instance isn’t even ABOUT that in the least. It’s simply the commercial industry that try their hardest to make us believe – that in order to have a “Good” Holiday season this year (whatever you may celebrate) that you should “BUY, BUY, BUY!” gifts and give them to those you love, because materialism is the only way to BE happy. All that truly helps though are the companies and while our economy could use the “Boost” financially – if you don’t have the money – don’t sweat it! Don’t let them tell you otherwise.

Try starting a new Holiday tradition this year. Instead of buying every single gift (or using layaway which even though helps – you are still creating debt for yourself to pay off at a later date) try making a few. Remember, Christmas is about charity, thoughtfulness, togetherness, family, friends, good company, and in a way it’s like another “Thanksgiving” only you are counting your Blessings and going over what you are thankful for.
